Major film studio is downsizing its data processes
Over at 20th Century Fox, the records management facility takes up 9,000 square feet in three locations. As a way to cut cut down costs and increase efficiency, their chief information officer (CIO) is revamping the company's database management services to eliminate one storage facility.
Working out of six, separate movie studios, FOX's IT department felt it was time to "modernize its infrastructure," according to Computerworld. Even though some of the operations will be moved outside of the office, most documents will be scanned and stored in a secure, cloud-based server. Once the consolidation would be completed, FOX's data center would be 30 percent smaller at 2,700 square feet.
Some argue that changing the framework of how information is stored will phase out in five years, but John Herbert, FOX's CIO and executive vice president doesn't think so.
"IT is more relevant today than we have ever been," Herbert told Computerworld. "I would much rather focus on business alignment and creating business value."
