The idea of the “paperless office” has been around for quite some time, though there continue to be many businesses that use paper extensively each day. With new document scanning and other paperless office solutions, offices may soon find going all electronic to be easier than ever before.
Fujitsu’s, the same company that created the technology that allows for scanning multiple double-sided documents at once, created a scanner that does just that. Instead of individually placing and turning over paper documents, the Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500 can scan a stack of 50 papers with one command, as well as turn documents into PDFs and send to an online folder. But since most offices are going paperless in a permanent sense – and will be investing less in scanners and fax machines – these devices may be used more by bulk scanning services instead.
In addition to creating ways to more efficiently scan documents, a new tablet may encourage businesses to adapt to a digital office. The PaperTab, created by Canadian scientists, is “paper-thin,” making it more flexible and durable than current tablets. But a major advantage is that it can be attached to other PaperTabs – users can simply drag one document from one tablet to another, making it especially useful for businesses that often use paper handouts.
According to the International Business Times, this innovation is still being tweaked, and will likely not be available for the next five or 10 years, but these new paperless office solutions make going completely digital seem increasingly plausible.
